Why buy a 5th Wheeler
WHY BUY A 5TH WHEELER INSTEAD OF A CARAVAN?
The concept of Fifth wheelers has been around since 1000bc and was used to steer wagons and carriages. Over the years It has progressed to Tractors, Trucks and RV’s. Look at how many Semi-trailers are on the roads throughout the world. The Australian public is now getting used to this in it's caravan form, so we are now seeing a steady rise in these rigs on our roads. Australia's perseption that all Fifth Wheelers are huge heavy trailers that need a big rig to tow them, is now a thing of the past.
There are many advantages over a caravan.
- SAFETY. With the weight of the front section of the 5th wheeler over the tow vehicles rear axle, creating stability by putting the weight where it’s ment to be. Not hanging off the rear of your cars bumper which works as a counter leaver and can create sway, pitching and in-stability. (Once you tow an Expedition you won’t go back to a caravan).
- MANOURVERING. A 5th wheeler can be bigger than a caravan, but shorter in over-all length. Without the extra metre or two a caravan needs for a towbar. This means you can have more floor space, storage and still be able to squeeze it into tight spots.
- WEIGHT. We strive to build light-weight, yet very strong 5th wheelers so you can take advantage of this by using smaller tow vehicles, like Nissan Navara, Mazda BT 50, Isuzu D-Max, Ford Ranger, Holden Rodeo or anything up from this. The crucial weight to take note of is the vehicles Gross Combined Mass (GCM). For example: A Nissan Navara Duel Cab Turbo Diesel has a GCM of 5805kg. The Kerb Weight is 1985kg. Allow 400kg for people etc. 5805 – 1985 = 3820 - 400 = 3420 kg 5th Wheeler - Loaded.
Our latest Wanderer model weighs only 2120kg tare, and can be towed by the even lighter capacity vehicles; Holden Crewman, Ford Falcon, Toyota Hi-lux, Great Wall and so on. We are also now building an 18 foot version that will come in at around 1800-1900kg tare!
- HITCHING UP. Hooking up to our 5th Wheeler is easy. No need to get out of your car to see if you’re lined up. You can normally see the hitch in your rear-vision mirror, making it a one person hook-up. The options of Remote Control Electric legs and Reversing Cameras can make it even easier.
- LEVELLING UP. With the Independently controlled Airbag Suspension along with the Remote front legs, gone are the days of wasting time to set up camp, bending your back, chocking under tyres, and using wind up jacks. We know you would rather be sitting in a comfy chair with a glass of your favourite beverage
